William Steven Joachim (/ˈɑːkɪm/joh-AHK-ihm;[1] born March 27, 1952) is an American former professionalfootball player who was aquarterback in theNational Football League (NFL) for theNew York Jets, and in theCanadian Football League (CFL) with theToronto Argonauts. He playedcollege football for thePenn State Nittany Lions before transferring to theTemple Owls, where he led the nation in total offense and won theMaxwell Award in 1974. He was selected by theBaltimore Colts in the1975 NFL draft.

He grew up inHavertown, Pennsylvania, and played high school football atHaverford High School.

After football

He entered the world of Pennsylvania politics in 1982, running as a Republican for Pennsylvania's Seventh Congressional District seat. He lost by 10 points to DemocratBob Edgar.
