Steve Dimopoulos is an Australian politician. He has been aLabor Party member of theVictorian Legislative Assembly since 2014 representing the electoral district ofOakleigh.[1] He served as the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events and theMinister for Creative Industries in theSecond Andrews Ministry from June 2022 to September 2023.[2] He continued as Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Minister for the Environment, and Minister for Outdoor Recreation in theAllan Ministry.
Prior to his election to state parliament, Dimopoulos was a councillor, and former mayor of theCity of Monash. He previously worked as a public servant in the Department of Justice and the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. He also worked for the former federal member forHotham,Simon Crean. Before entering politics Dimopoulos was a small business owner inOakleigh.[3]
In 2018 Dimopoulos was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to theTreasurer. He then served as Parliamentary Secretary to thePremier, and Parliamentary Secretary for Mental Health from 2020.
Dimopoulos was sworn in as Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events andMinister for Creative Industries on 27 June 2022.[4][5]
Originally a member ofLabor Right, Dimopoulos defected toLabor Left along with six of his colleagues shortly after the 2022 Victorian state election; the defections of his colleagues and himself meant that Labor Left constituted a majority of the state Labor caucus.[6][7]

Dimopoulos is of Greek descent. He andHarriet Shing are the first openly gay frontbenchers in theParliament of Victoria.[8][9]
