Steven John Barry (born 25 October 1950) is a retiredWelshrace walker[1] aho competed at the1984 Summer Olympics.

Biography

Barry, born inCardiff, was a member of theCardiff Amateur Athletic Club and Roath Walking Club.

He became theBritish 3,000 metres walk champion after winning the BritishAAA Championships title at the1980 AAA Championships[2] and was three-times10,000 metres walk champion after winning the AAAs for three consecutive years from 1981 to 1983.[3]

Barry won the gold medal in the30 km road walk at the1982 Commonwealth Games representingWales.[4][5]

Barry representedGreat Britain at the1984 Los Angeles Olympics in the20 km walk, finishing 24th. Barry retired from the sport through injury following the Olympics.[1][5][6]

Barry won theBBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year in 1982.[7]
