Stephen Trigg Logan (February 24, 1800 – July 17, 1880) was an American lawyer and politician.
Stephen T. Logan was born inFranklin County, Kentucky on February 24, 1800.[1] Hepracticed law withAbraham Lincoln from 1841 to 1843.[2] He served as Illinois circuit court judge and in 1847 was elected to the Illinois Constitutional Convention. He also served in theIllinois House of Representatives.[3] Logan's son,David was a politician inOregon, serving as mayor ofPortland.[4] Stephen Trigg Logan was a close friend and associate of Illinois industrialists and financiersJacob Bunn andJohn Whitfield Bunn, who, at Logan's suggestion, helped Logan and others fund the 1860 presidential campaign ofAbraham Lincoln.[5]
His maternal grandfather was American pioneerStephen Trigg and his paternal grandfather wasJohn Logan, who was elected the first treasurer of the state ofKentucky.
His daughter Sally was the second wife ofWard Hill Lamon, another former Lincoln law partner who later served as his primary bodyguard during theCivil War.
Logan died inSpringfield, Illinois on July 17, 1880.[6]
