Stephen P. Laurie is a British amateurastronomer. He is a prolific discoverer ofasteroids andcomets,[1] although his profession is that of anactuary.[2] He has also worked on searches fordwarf stars,[3] and discoveredsupernova SN 1997bq inNGC 3147, on 7 April 1997.[2][4]

Laurie has named five asteroids he discovered from theChurch Stretton area —7603 Salopia (named afterShropshire),[5]9421 Violilla,9428 Angelalouise,10216 Popastro and11626 Church Stretton[6] — all discovered atobservatory 966 Church Stretton and nearby location Ragdon (observatory J17). Laurie lives and works in the Church Stretton area.[2]
