Stephane (Ancient Greek:Στεφάνη) was a small port town on the coast ofancient Paphlagonia, according toArrian 180stadia east ofCimolis,[1] but according toMarcian of Heraclea only 150.[2] The place was mentioned as early as the time ofHecataeus of Miletus as a town of theMariandyni, under the name ofStephanis (Στεφανίς).[3] The town is also mentioned in thePeriplus of Pseudo-Scylax and by the geographerPtolemy.[4] The name is writtenStefano in thePeutinger Table.[5]
Its site is located nearIstifan,Asiatic Turkey.[6][7]
