Theslender-billed greenbul (Stelgidillas gracilirostris) is a species in themonotypic genusStelgidillas of thebulbul family ofpasserinebirds. It is found in western and central Africa. Its naturalhabitats aresubtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and subtropical or tropical moistmontane forest.
The slender-billed greenbul wasformally described in 1844 by the English naturalistHugh Edwin Strickland under thebinomial nameAndropadus gracilirostris from a specimen collected on the island of Fernando Pó (nowBioko) off the west coast of Africa.[2]
Amolecular phylogenetic study of the bulbuls published in 2007 found thatAndropadus wasnon-monophyletic.[3] In the subsequent rearrangement to create monophyletic genera, the slender-billed greenbul was moved to the genusStelgidillas that had been introduced byHarry C. Oberholser in 1899.[4][5]
Formerly, some authorities also considered the following species (or subspecies) as species within the genusStelgidillas:
