Gertrude Stein is an outdoorbronze sculpture ofGertrude Stein, located inBryant Park inManhattan in New York City.[1] The casting was installed in 1992 and is based on a model created byJo Davidson in Paris in 1923. Its location near theNew York Public Library Main Branch commemorates Stein's "significant literary contributions".[1]
Sculptor Jo Davidson, a friend of Stein from her Paris years, wrote, "She somehow symbolized wisdom", and he depicted her as "a sort of modern Buddha."[citation needed]
