Starlee Kine (born April 8, 1975)[1] is an Americanpublic radio producer and writer.

Early life

Kine grew up in the Los Angeles area. She was born Starlee Slabatkine, but soon the family shortened its surname to Kine, with her Jewish father changing his given name from Norman to Richard, not to be confused with actorRichard Kind, no relation.

Kine has a younger sister.[2]

Kine studied play and screen writing atNew York University, and then began working for theThis American Life radio show, initially as an intern.[2]

Career

Starlee Kine worked as producer, writer, and/or narrator onThis American Life, including on several episodes that initially aired between 1997 and 2013.[3]

Kine was the creator and host of the podcastMystery Show, which was done in production withGimlet Media. Her work has been featured onThis American Life.[4] She was a frequent guest on the CBC Radio showWireTap. Her writing has appeared in theNew York Times Magazine andCalifornia Sunday.

On April 30, 2015,Gimlet Media announced Kine would be the host of its new podcast,Mystery Show. The show's first episode was released on May 22, 2015.[5]

In early 2016, she was an artist-in-residence at theMacDowell Colony. On March 4, 2016, she presented a sampling of her work and a teaser of a mystery-in-progress at the Monadnock Cultural Center inPeterborough, New Hampshire.[6]

In April 2016, Kine announced thatMystery Show would no longer be produced at Gimlet Media.[7]

Kine served as an editorial advisor on Serial Productions'sS-Town podcast.[8]

Kine has had a few acting roles such as the voice of Tina from theCartoon Network webseriesDIY. She was part of the cast of the first season ofThe Shivering Truth, anAdult Swim series created byVernon Chatman.[9]

In March 2020, Kine, along withDavid Rees and Jon Kimball, returned to host the political podcastElection Profit Makers[10] covering the prediction market websitePredictIt in the lead up to the2020 US presidential election. Kine, Rees and Kimball previously hostedElection Profit Makers prior to the2016 US presidential election.

Kine was a writer for the television seriesSearch Party.[citation needed]
