Stanley B. McDonald (October 13, 1920 – November 20, 2014) was the founder ofPrincess Cruises, one of the largestcruise lines in the world.
Born inAlberta, Canada and educated atRoosevelt High School inSeattle and theUniversity of Washington, Stan McDonald joined theUnited States Navy Air Corps.[1]
AfterWorld War II, Stan McDonald founded Air Mac, a material handling business.[1][2] Air Mac provided all the ground transportation equipment for theWorld's Fair inSeattle: McDonald also chartered a ship to bring visitors to the Fair.[3]
In 1965, based on his experience from the World's Fair, he foundedPrincess Cruises which he expanded into one of the largestcruise lines in the world.[1]
McDonald sold Air Mac toRCA in 1969 and Princess Cruises toP&O in 1975: he remainedchairman of the latter business until 1980.[1]
In 1977, together with two other partners, he purchased the real estate assets ofChrysler and subsequently formed Stellar International, a real estate business.[1]
McDonald married Barbara in 1944: together they went on to have one son and one daughter.[1] He died November 20, 2014, in Seattle, aged 94.[4]
