Stanhope plc is a large property development company based inLondon, England. Its developments have includedBroadgate andTelevision Centre atWhite City.
Stanhope was founded byStuart Lipton and Peter Rogers in 1983.[1][2] They were the developers of theBroadgate complex in the 1980s.[3]
In 1995, the company developed Gresham St Paul's (previously Garrard House) inGresham Street, London, forSchroders.[4] The company went on to developPaternoster Square, in partnership withMitsubishi Estate, in the late 1990s.[5][6]
In 2000, Stanhope, along withBritish Gas,Lendlease, Chelsfield plc andHambros Bank formed Exchequer Partnership plc, aspecial purpose vehicle, which successfully bid for thePFI contract for the refurbishment ofGovernment Offices Great George Street, London to houseHM Treasury.[7]
Lipton sold his share in the company to the chief executive, David Camp, in December 2005.[8][9] In July 2012, in partnership withMitsui Fudosan andAIMCo, the company acquiredTelevision Centre atWhite City for £200 million.[10][11] and, 2019, in partnership withMitsubishi Estate, the company started work on the 51-storey8 Bishopsgate tower block.[12]
As at December 2022, AIMCo,Cadillac Fairview and Mitsui Fudosan held a combined 80% of the shares with management owning the remainder.[13]
