Stade Louis II was a multi-use stadium inFontvieille, Monaco. It was initially used as the stadium ofAS Monaco FC matches. It was rebuilt and replaced by a newStade Louis II in 1985. The capacity of the stadium was 12,000 spectators.
In 1936,Prince Louis II of Monaco awardedJean-Baptiste Pastor and his companyJ.B. Pastor & Fils, the commission to build the country's first football stadium.[1] It was finished in 1939.
The stadium hosted majorprofessional boxing world title and non title fights from time to time; those include theCarlos Monzon versusNino Benvenuti rematch,[2] Monzon's rematch withEmile Griffith,[3] Monzon's two classic fights withRodrigo Valdes,[4][5]Davey Moore versusWilfredo Benitez,[6] and thedouble knockout-ending classic betweenLee Roy Murphy andChisanda Mutti (won by Murphy),[7] Other major fights have been held at the similarly namedStade Louis II.
