TheSt Matthias Islands (also known as theMussau islands) are a smallarchipelago group of islands in theBismarck Archipelago, in northernPapua New Guinea. They are withinNew Ireland Province.[1] The archipelago is home to theSt. Matthias languages.
There are at least 10 islands. The largest and most northerly isMussau.
To the southwest of Mussau are:Eloaua,Emananus,Boliu,Emussau,Ebanalu,Ekaleu, and a few smaller isles.To the east of Mussau are:Emirau, and further east isTench Island.
The islands have been designated as anEndemic Bird Area byBirdlife International.
