St. George Academy, also known asSt. George's Ukrainian Catholic School (Ukrainian:Українська Католицька Школа Святого Юра), is an Americanprivate,Ukrainian-Catholichigh school, located in theEast Village neighborhood of theManhattan borough ofNew York City.
It is located within theRoman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. It is co-located withLa Salle Academy.
The school was founded in 1947 by the Fathers of theOrder of Saint Basil the Great.[1]
The school was historically heavilyUkrainian American, with 900 being the peak enrollment of students of Ukrainian origin.[2]
In 2022 its enrollment was 80,[2] with 37% of that figure being of Ukrainian ancestry. The school community became concerned after the2022 invasion of Ukraine due to its ties to Ukraine.[3] By March 2022, three refugees from the war became students at St. George Academy.[2]
