Andrei KirilenkoAndrei Kirilenko (basketball)Andrei Kirilenko (basketball) – Under the current status quo, a Wikipedia search for "Andrei Kirilenko" prioritizes this page over an article concerningone of the most powerful and influential figures in the Soviet Union during the Brezhnev era. There's no reason why a sports figure of relatively little renown outside Russia should take top billing over a figure of such historical significance.Emiya1980 (talk) 22:24, 11 November 2025 (UTC)— Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk00:47, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There's no reason ...: There isWP:PRIMARYTOPIC based on usage—the basketball player's page averages a few hundred views a day (and he's retired) versus ~30/day for the politician.[1]... why a sports figure of relatively little renown outside Russia ...: No, he spent 13 years in the United States with theNBA, which also has a global following. —Bagumba (talk)05:50, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, he played for the NBA. Still, he never achieved the same renown as players likeMichael Jordan,Lebron James,Charles Barkley, orLarry Bird. Compared to someone who had a leading role in one of the most powerful countries in the world and made decisions that affected the fate of millions, that's small potatoes.Emiya1980 (talk)10:02, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
These are subjective comments based on your opinion. Regardless, Pageviews Analysis shows that the basketball player's page should be the primary topic. I think it's time toWP:DROPTHESTICK.Assadzadeh (talk)14:40, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose perBagumba. Status quo is the clear primary topic, asthe page views tell the story far more objectively and fairly than an individual editor's subjective opinion on what's "powerful", "influential", "significant", or of "little renown".Left guide (talk)05:57, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment While I'm not opposed to renaming the article,Oppose I disagree with the statement that he's "a sports figure of relatively little renown outside Russia". All one has to do is look at his career history and highlights to realize that he had a lengthy NBA career with many achievements. That's why fans still remember his nickname "AK-47" (because he wore #47 when he was with the Utah Jazz).

  • Oppose I'm formally !voting after commenting above. The claims of "long-term significance" of the politician are uncompelling and inconsistent with that page receiving just ~40 views/day (100 would be a more interesting case), while the basketball player is in triple figures with almost a 10:1 ratio discrepancy.[2] The nom's claim that the athlete has "relatively little renown outside Russia" is baseless. No prejudice to revisiting if data changes years from now.—Bagumba (talk)07:58, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Bagumba.Maybe the politician is the primary topic, or maybe it should be aWP:TWODABS situation, but I see no evidence presented to support the argument. It's subjective at this point. – Muboshgu (talk)22:38, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: If it isn't too much trouble, could @Emiya1980 please briefly explain the significance of the politician? I understand that Soviet politicians often had substantially more power and influence than their formal titles might indicate, and the politician's awards seem to indicate that this is the case here, but I'm still unclear on exactly what that power was or how it impacted the Soviet Union, which is what matters to the politician's long-term significance. it might be easier to judge if we had an understanding of what exactly made this man was so powerful and influential.Ladtrack (talk)06:15, 21 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
