TheSpanish National Dance Company (Spanish:Compañía Nacional de Danza,CND) was founded in 1979 under the nameBallet Nacional de España Clásico.[1][2] Its first director was dancerVictor Ullate,[3] followed by Maria de Avila,[4]Ray Barra,[5]Maya Plisetskaya,[6]Nacho Duato (1990 – July 2010),[7] Hervé Palito,[8]José Carlos Martínez (December 2010 – 2019),[9] andJoaquín de Luz.[10]
In 2018 it was announced that the company would be moving to therailway museum, near the centre of Madrid.[11]
