TheSovabazar Raj family, seated atSovabazar Palace in the Indian city ofKolkata, were theZamindars ofShobhabazar. The clan begins with aMaharajaNaba Krishna Deb Bahadur left behind two sons, adopted sonRajaGopimohan Deb (1768) and his own son Raja Raj Krishna Deb. Raja Gopimohan Deb was founder director ofHindu College and founder of famousDharma Sabha. He offered much precious gold and silver toMaa Kali ofKalighat. A very well known scholar inUrdu,Persian, and English. His son wasRadhakanta Deb, whereas Raja Rajkrishna Deb (1782–1823) had eight sons.

TheZamindari consisted more than half ofSutanuti and thousands of acres of lands in several districts ofBengal (now parts ofWest Bengal andBangladesh).[1][2]
