Soultz-les-Bains (French pronunciation:[sult͡slebɛ̃]; historicalGerman:Sulzbad,pronounced[zʊlt͡s.baːt]) is acommune in theBas-Rhindepartment inGrand Est,France.[3]

In 1682, the famousmilitary engineerVauban constructed theCanal de la Bruche between Soultz andStrasbourg. The canal was needed in order to transportsandstone from the quarries of Soultz for use in his fortification of Strasbourg. The canal carried its last commercial load in 1939 and was formally closed in 1957.[4][5]
