Souba is a village andrural commune in theCercle of Ségou in theSégou Region of southern-centralMali. The commune contains 24 villages in an area of approximately 1,104 square kilometers.[3] In the 2009 census it had a population of 17,961.[2] The village of Souba, thechef-lieu of the commune, sits on the left (north) bank of theNiger River.
The Saako and Konare families were sent by thefaamas of theSegou Empire to found Souba within theKala province.[4]
