Sorgues (French pronunciation:[sɔʁɡ];Occitan:Sòrgas) is acommune in the southeastern Frenchdepartment ofVaucluse. The riverOuvèze, a tributary of theRhône, as well as its tributarySorgue, which begins at theFontaine de Vaucluse, run through the commune.[3][4] Sorgues, which had a population of 18,680 in 2017, is located just north ofAvignon, on the border withGard.
According toThe Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas byGertrude Stein,Georges Braque lived in Sorgues after being wounded during theFirst World War.[5]
