Sophia Di Martino (born 15 November 1983) is an English actress known for portrayingSylvie in theMarvel Cinematic Universe television seriesLoki (2021–2023), which earned her twoMTV Movie & TV Awards and a nomination for aCritics' Choice Television Award forBest Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She has also had starring roles in the television showsFlowers (2016–2018) andCasualty (2009–2011).

Early life and education

Di Martino was born inNottingham and grew up in the suburb ofAttenborough. She is half Italian.[2] She attendedChilwell Comprehensive School, where she completed anA Level in performing arts.[3] She went on to graduate with aBachelor of Arts with honours in media and performance from theUniversity of Salford.[4]

Career

Di Martino works in television, film, theatre, and music. InChannel 4'sFlowers, she plays Amy Flowers. She plays Eva in the 2016 feature filmThe Darkest Universe. She appeared as Amber in the third series of Sky'sMount Pleasant and as Emma, the girlfriend ofSimon Bird's character Adam, in the first episode of series three of Channel 4'sFriday Night Dinner. She also appeared in the third series of4 O'Clock Club in 2014 as Miss Parkwood and in the 2015 filmRoyal Day Out.

She was a regular cast member ofCasualty, playing the role ofPauline "Polly" Emmerson from 19 March 2009 until 30 April 2011. In 2018, she appeared inClick & Collect.[5]

In 2019, she was cast asSylvie in theDisney+ showLoki.[6]Season one premiered on 9 June 2021 and concluded on 14 July.[7] Di Martino wonBest Breakthrough Performance andBest Team withTom Hiddleston andOwen Wilson at the2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards.[8][9][10]Season two ofLoki premiered on 5 October 2023.[11]

Di Martino also co-hosts theTrue Spies podcast.[12]

Personal life

In 2016, Di Martino stated that she has "had relationships with both men and women", that she believes "sexuality is afluid thing", and that she has "definitely tried on different labels at different points in my life".[13] She is married to actor and writerWill Sharpe,[14][15] with whom she has been in a relationship since 2009.[16] They have two children, born in 2019 and 2021.[17][18][19]
