Sooretamys angouya, also known as therat-headed rice rat,[2] andParaguayan rice rat,[2] is arodentspecies fromSouth America.[3] It is found in northeasternArgentina, southernBrazil andParaguay in forested areas within theAtlantic Forest andcerrado.[1] Since 2006, it has been classified as theonly species in thegenusSooretamys; previously, it was included in the genusOryzomys. Itstaxonomic history has been complex, with the namesOryzomys angouya,Oryzomys buccinatus, andOryzomys ratticeps in use for various parts of the species at different times.[3] Some variation in itskaryotype has been reported, with2n = 80 to 82 andFN = 88 to 90.[3]
