Songlingornis is an extinctgenus ofornithuromorphdinosaurs from the EarlyCretaceous. Itsfossils have been found in theJiufotang Formation ofLiaoning (PRC).[1] The age of these rocks is somewhat disputed, but probably around the earlyAptian, 125-120 million years ago. Only onespecies,Songlingornis linghensis, is known at present.
It was a close relative ofYanornis and together with this andYixianornis may form aclade.[2] It is sometimes considered to be the same genus asYanornis (which, described afterSonglingornis, would then be merged into thattaxon),[3] but this is not universally accepted.[4]
