Soham Chakraborty (born 4 March 1984) is an Indian actor, producer, television personality and politician. He has appeared in more than 100Bengali films, as child artist (Master Bittu) and as male lead. He earned numerous accolades, including Uttam Kumar Awards,BFJA Awards andStar Jalsha Entertainment Awards. Chakraborty has a significant following inWest Bengal,Assam and other adjacent states in India andBangladesh. He is a member ofTrinamool Congress. He contested2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election from Borjora Constituency.He won the General election 2021 fromChandipur constituency by a margin of 14000 votes. He was sworn in asMember of Legislative Assembly on 2 May 2021.

Soham Chakraborty made hisTollywood debut in 1988 as achild artist with the popular Bengali filmChoto Bou. Early in his career, Chakraborty was recognised asMaster Bittu^[1] and featured in several films as a child artist includingMangaldeep in 1989,Nayan Moni in 1989,Jowar Bhata in 1990,Satyajit Ray directedShakha Proshakha in 1990,Bhagya Debata in 1997, starringMithun Chakraborty and several other noted films. He was awarded Uttam Kumar Awards twice as Child Artist of the year for his performance inJowar Bhata (1991) andShakha Proshakha (1990). He has appeared in several television series and has played supporting roles in films in the late 1990s and early 2000s.^[2] After completing his higher education in the field of B.Com. (Hons.), he appeared inChander Bari, directed byTarun Majumdar (2007).^[3] Chakraborty, has described the difficult phase and struggling days in his acting career to appear in the big budget films. He was then launched with the filmBajimaat (2008), as male lead. He then rose to prominence after starring in 2009 filmPrem Aamar directed byRaj Chakraborty and produced byShree Venkatesh Films, which turned out a blockbuster and recorded highest grosser inBengali film's history. AfterPrem Aamar his previously shot filmsRahasya,Jeena, andSoldier were released and were commercially average.^[4][5] His other blockbuster filmAmanush was released in 2010. The film was directed by Rajib Biswas. Chakraborty played the role of Vinod, an orphan who has suffered a lot of physical and mental torture in his childhood.^[5] He went on to films such asFaande Poriya Boga Kaande Re (2011),Jibon Rong Berong (2011),Le Halua Le (2012),Jaaneman (2012),Bojhena Shey Bojhena (2012),Loveria (2013),Bangali Babu English Mem (2014),Amanush 2 (2015) andBlack. The series of comedies and family dramas that followed, earned Chakraborty widespread adulation from audiences, particularly among teenagers. Such films areJamai 420 ( 2015),Katmundu (2015),Jio Pagla (2017) andHoneymoon (2018),Jamai Badal (2019) andThai Curry (2019). His other blockbuster filmShudhu Tomari Jonyo ( 2015), along with Dev, remains a highest-grosser and has been screened inMumbai andNew Delhi. In 2015, Chakraborty was appointed the Vice President ofAll India Trinamool Youth Congress.

Soham also anchored a reality showTwinkle Twinkle Dancing Star launched by makers of Chirodini...Tumi Je Amar, Prem Amar, Challenge and Amanush.^[6] He was also the host ofParar Sera Bouthan, replacingAneek Dhar, which aired onETV Bangla.^[7] The show was then hosted byAparajita Adhya. Soham has also appeared as a guest on television serialBojhena Se Bojhena. Chakraborty, in 2019-20 along withMithun Chakraborty andSrabanti Chatterjee judged the dance reality showDance Dance Junior byStar Jalsha.

Chakraborty joinedAll India Trinamool Congress in 2014. Chakraborty was appointed theAll India Trinamool Youth Congress state vice president.^[8] Chakraborty contested2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election fromBarjora (Vidhan Sabha constituency). Chakraborty was defeated bySujit Chakraborty ofCPI-M by a margin of 616 votes.^[9][10]

It is alleged that Chakraborty assaulted the owner Anirul Alam inNew Town,Kolkata.^[18] According to the CCTV camera footage it showed Chakraborty, holding Mr. Alam by his collar, slapping and dragging Alam out. Chakraborty has also been accused of threatening to close down the restaurant business.^[19]

In 2022 Chakraborty was awardedMahanayak by thechief minister of West BengalMamata Banerjee.^[20]
