Sofia Marinou (Greek:Σοφία Μαρίνου, 1884 – unknown)[1] was a Greek tennis player, who won twosilver medals at the1906 Intercalated Games inAthens,Greece.

Career

At the1906 Intercalated Games in Athens, Greece, Marinou competed in theWomen's singles competition, and theMixed doubles competition, alongsideGeorgios Simiriotis.[2] In her first round singles match againstIoanna Tissamenou, Marinou and Tissamenou became the first women to represent Greece at anOlympic Games.[a][1] In the mixed doubles event, Marinou and Simiriotis lost to eventual winnersMax andMarie Decugis, and they were awarded a silver medal.[b][3]

Marinou and Simiriotis later won the mixed doubles event at the 1908Panhellenic Tennis Championship [el].[4]

Personal life

It is believed that Sofia Marinou was related to Georgios Simiriotis and his sisterEsmée Simirioti.[5]
