Snow Peak, Inc. (スノーピーク,Sunōpīku) is a Japanese manufacturer ofhigh-end camping and hiking equipment.

The company's name has been rendered inkango form asSeppō (雪峰), and fans have abbreviated it asSnopy (スノピ,Sunopi).[1][2]

History

Snow Peak was founded byYamai Yukio in 1958 as a localforge under the nameYamai shōten (山井商店).[3] The company's first foray into outdoor equipment were experimental models ofcrampons andpitons made ofinox steel andtitanium. The "Snow Peak" brand name was established in 1963, the peak in question beingMount Tanigawa, a popular destination for Japanesemountaineers.[4]

Snow Peak sellsisobutane fuel under the Giga Power (ギガパワー) brand.

In 2014, Snow Peak introduced anapparel line.[3]

In 2017, theJūbako (住箱) portableprefabricated home designed by Snow Peak in collaboration withKuma Kengo won theJapan Institute of Design Promotion'sGood Design Award.[5]

The company has opened stores in the United States, with locations inPortland andBrooklyn, with another set to open inSeattle.[6]
