During the 1969-1970 school year, Smithville ISD gave three black students to an all-African American school district,Jeddo Common School District, which meant that the Jeddo district continued to exist. Without the student transfer, it would not have received enough students to get funding for its teacher. A legal document in Texas cited this as a case ofde facto segregation.[7]
In the 2012–2013 school year, the district had students in five schools.[1]
