Slauson station is abuswaystation located inLos Angeles, California. It is situated between the37th Street/USC andManchester stations on theJ Line, abus rapid transit route which runs betweenEl Monte,Downtown Los Angeles andSan Pedro as part of theMetro Busway system. The station consists of twoside platforms in the center ofInterstate 110 aboveSlauson Avenue. The station serves theVermont-Slauson,South Park andFlorence neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
Slauson station was built between 1989 and 1996 as part of theHarbor Transitway and opened to passengers on August 1, 1996.[2] J Line buses serve the station twenty-four hours a day; theheadway between buses is about four minutes during peak periods, with less frequent service at other times. Slauson station is also served by severalLos Angeles Metro Bus andTorrance Transit bus services, most of which only run during weekday peak periods.
AnA Linestation with an identical name is located approximately 2.1 miles (3.4 km) east of the station.[3] Passengers may use LA Metro Bus route108 to travel between the two.
Slauson station is situated along theHarbor Transitway and consists of twoside platforms in themedian of the Interstate 110 (Harbor Freeway). The station is located near theVermont-Slauson,South Park andFlorence neighborhoods of Los Angeles.[4]
The busway platforms are accessed from either a ground-level plaza on south side of EastSlauson Avenue between SouthFigueroa Street and SouthBroadway or a pedestrian bridge from the east park and ride lot. The ground-level plaza has a stop for buses traveling east on Slauson Avenue (westbound buses board a block away) and aTAP cardticket vending machine that was added in early 2017 to support all-door boarding on the J Line.[5] The station has 151park and ride spaces in two parking lots built into the "leaves" of thepartial cloverleaf interchange between Slauson Avenue and Interstate 110.[6]
Slauson station is used by theMetro J Line bus rapid transit route which runs betweenEl Monte station inEl Monte,Downtown Los Angeles and theHarbor Gateway Transit Center inGardena, California, with select trips continuing on toSan Pedro.[7] The J Line is part of theMetro Busway system.[8]
J Line buses run 24 hours a day between El Monte, Downtown Los Angeles, and the Harbor Gateway Transit Center, as route 910. Some trips continue to San Pedro between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. and are signed as Route 950. On weekdays, buses operate every four to eight minutes during peak hours. They operate every 10 minutes in the midday, 20 minutes during evenings, 40 minutes during nights, and every hour overnight. On weekends, buses arrive every 15 minutes most of the day. They operate every 20 minutes during evenings, 40 minutes during nights, and every hour overnight.[9]
In addition to J Line buses, the busway platforms at Slauson station are also served by the all-dayLos Angeles Metro Bus route460 toDisneyland. There are also several routes that use the busway, geared towards people commuting to Los Angeles, operating only during weekday rush-hours, operating towards the city in the morning and returning at night: LA Metro Bus route550 to San Pedro; andTorrance Transit route4X toTorrance (also operates all-day Saturday). The station is also served by theDodger Stadium Express shuttle that operates during home games during baseball season.[8]
Slauson station is also served by several bus routes that use bus stops near to the station on surface streets: LA Metro Bus route45 that runs betweenLincoln Heights and Rosewood via Broadway,81 that runs betweenEagle Rock andSouth Los Angeles via Figueroa,108 that runs betweenMarina del Rey andPico Rivera via Slauson and theLADOT DASH Southeast shuttle route that serves theSouth Park neighborhood.[8][7]
