Sizzano is acomune (municipality) in theProvince of Novara in theItalian regionPiedmont, located about 80 kilometres (50 mi) northeast ofTurin and about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest ofNovara. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,452 and an area of 10.5 square kilometres (4.1 sq mi).[3]

Sizzano borders the following municipalities:Carpignano Sesia,Cavaglio d'Agogna,Fara Novarese, andGhemme.

Sizzano DOC

The comune of Sizzano is home to theDenominazione di origine controllata (DOC) wine which includes 20hectares (50 acres) producing a single red wine. The wine is a blend of 40 to 60%Nebbiolo (known locally asSpanna), 15 to 40%Vespolina and up to 25% ofUva Rara (known locally asBonarda Novarese). All grapes destined for DOC wine production need to beharvested to ayield no greater than 10tonnes/ha. The wine is the required to beaged in barrels for at least two years with another additional year ofaging in the bottle before it can be released to the public. The finished wine must attain a minimumalcohol level of 12% in order to belabelled with the Sizzano DOC designation.[4]
