Narayanan, better known by his stage nameSivachandran, is an Indian actor, director, and writer who was active inTamil cinema mostly in the 1980s.
Sivachandran was originally offered to act inKizhakke Pogum Rail (1978), but declined.[1] He made his film debut inPattina Pravesam (1977) as one of the lead actors althoughMoondru Mudichu (1976), which was simultaneously shot withPattina Pravesam was released first.[2][3] He later starred inAnnapoorani (1978) withR. Muthuraman in a negative role. He went on to star in notable films includeAval Appadithan (1978) andPolladhavan (1980).[4] He made his directorial debut withEn Uyir Kannamma (1988) and went on to direct several films withPrabhu.[5][6]
Sivachandran was born as Narayanan, in Valparai, in Coimbatore district. He changed his name to Sivachandran and started his acting career. The stage name is a portmanteau of "Siva" fromSivaji Ganesan and "Chandran" fromM. G. Ramachandran.[7]
Sivachandran fell in love with actressLakshmi on the sets of the filmEn Uyir Kannamma. Both of them got married in 1987.[4] He collaborated with Lakshmi again inRaththa Dhanam (1988) andJodi Sendhachu (1992), which was directed by Lakshmi herself. Sivachandran and Lakshmi adopted a girl, Samyuktha, in 2000.[8]
