Sinanköy (Kurdish:Sinanê;Syriac:Sīnānī)[2] is aneighbourhood in the municipality and district ofBismil,Diyarbakır Province inTurkey.[3] The village is populated byKurds of theElmanî tribe and had a population of 1,302 in 2022.[1][4]
Sīnānī (today called Sinanköy) was historically inhabited bySyriac Orthodox Christians andKurdish-speakingArmenians.[5] In the Syriac Orthodox patriarchal register of dues of 1870, it was recorded that the village had three households, who paid five dues, and did not have a church or a priest.[2] There were fifty Armenianhearths in 1880.[6] The village had an Armenian church.[6] It was located in thekaza ofBeşiri.[2] It is tentatively identified with the village of Sinoné, which was populated by 150Syriacs in 1914, according to the list presented to theParis Peace Conference by the Assyro-Chaldean delegation.[7] The Armenians were attacked by the Belek, Bekran, Şegro, and other Kurdish tribes in May 1915 amidst theArmenian genocide.[8]
