The company was founded by Barclay Simpson inOakland in 1956, as a successor to his father'swindow screen company.[1] Simpson manufacturedjoist hangers and the company's subsidiary Simpson Strong-Tie Co. Inc. became a dominant producer of structural connectors in North America and Europe.[1] The company subsequently moved toPleasanton andwent public in 1994.[1][2]
