Simpelveld (Dutch pronunciation:[ˈsɪmpəlˌvɛlt]ⓘ;Limburgish:Zumpelveld[ˈzʏm˦pəlˌvælt˦]) is amunicipality and atown in the southeasternNetherlands. It is part of the municipal cooperative unitParkstad Limburg.
Simpelveld is part of theMergelland, named after the presence ofchalk (mergel),hill country popular with tourists. TheMergellandroute passes through the town.
The population centre of Simpelveld has 28national monuments, amongst which are theOude Molen and theSaint Remigius Church. Simpelveld has aheritage railway station and is the home base of theSouth Limburg Railway Company. On one weekend in October there is aDay Out with Thomas from the children's television seriesThomas and Friends.
