Simon Jonathan Collins (born 16 December 1973) is an English former professionalfootballer, born inPontefract, Yorkshire, who made 200 appearances inthe Football League playing as adefender forHuddersfield Town,Plymouth Argyle,Macclesfield Town andShrewsbury Town.[1][2] He was manager ofBradford Park Avenue, having previously been in charge atOssett Town andStocksbridge Park Steels.
Collins started his career as a trainee atHuddersfield Town,[2] spending time on loan toHalifax Town[3] before joiningPlymouth Argyle in 1997. He appeared in the famousJimmy Glass game, in whichCarlisle United'sgoalkeeper scored in the 94th minute to save his club fromrelegation fromthe Football League.[4] After leaving Argyle in 1999 he played forMacclesfield Town andShrewsbury Town in the league,[2] and then fornon-league clubsFrickley Athletic,Belper Town,Bradford Park Avenue,Grantham Town,Ossett Town,[5] andStocksbridge Park Steels.[6]
He then went into coaching, and managed Ossett Town from 2007[7] to 2009 before taking over as manager ofStocksbridge Park Steels in September 2009.[5] Collins left Stocksbridge in March 2010, just six months after joining,[citation needed] before being appointed newBradford Park Avenue manager in May 2010, following the end of the 2009–10 season.[8]
His younger brotherSam also became a professional footballer; the brothers played alongside each other for Huddersfield Town.[9]
