Silverbridge is a smallvillage in thetownland of Legmoylin inCounty Armagh,Northern Ireland. It is within theNewry and Mourne District Council area. In the2011 Census it had a recorded population of 112.[1] The localGAA club isSilverbridge Harps GFC, which plays football at Senior level incounty competitions.[2] The area was historically called Belanargit (fromBéal Átha an Airgid meaning "ford mouth of the silver").[3]
Silverbridge, along with the rest of South Armagh, would have been transferred to theIrish Free State had the recommendations of theIrish Boundary Commission been enacted in 1925.[4]
On 19 December 1975, duringThe Troubles, anUlster Volunteer Force (UVF)attack on Donnelly's Bar & Filling Station resulted in the deaths of Trevor Bracknell, Patrick Donnelly, and Michael Donnelly.[5][6][7]
