TheSidri, also known asSidrian Hunters, are an alien species appearing inAmerican comic books published byMarvel Comics. They are depicted as adversaries of theX-Men. Created by writerChris Claremont and artistDave Cockrum, they first appeared inUncanny X-Men #154 (February 1982).
The Sidri look roughly like giantbeetles,crabs orsting rays. Thedorsal portion of their bodies resembles a shell and is dark purple. The underbelly is yellow. Sidri have six limbs, with four on the sides of their bodies and two near the front of the underbelly. Each Sidri has a single, large, red eye.
The Sidri live incolonies and are so closely linked that they can combine into a "ship matrix", a gestalt being resembling amanta ray that is capable of flying atfaster-than-light speeds and surviving in space.
The Sidri are an adaptive bio-mechanical species. They can project force blasts or other forms of energy from their visor-likeaperture and generate natural body armor.
The Sidri first encounter theX-Men when a group of Sidribounty hunters followCorsair to theX-Mansion. The Sidri attack Corsair,Cyclops, andStorm and destroy the mansion.[1] The Sidri ship matrix pursue the trio, who had escaped in theBlackbird jet. Corsair kills the Sidri by igniting a petroleum storage facility.[2]
Later,Kitty Pryde is attacked by a group of Sidri in a maintenance tunnel of the reconstructed X-Mansion's sub-basement. The sub-basement had survived the attack, and several Sidri had hid there to lay eggs.Colossus andLockheed come to Kitty's aid, and the three defeat the Sidri. Lockheed destroys thousands of Sidri eggs by burning and eating them.[3]
An all-female team of X-Men consisting ofJubilation Lee,Rachel Summers,Monet St. Croix,Ororo Munroe, andBetsy Braddock end up in a confrontation with an enclave of Sidri hunters while caring forDeathbird.[4]
A group of Sidri infestEgo the Living Planet. Ego attempts to get help, but everyone he finds refuses, fearing his power. Ego then callsNova, who destroys the Sidri by pushing an asteroid onto Ego's surface.[5][6]
A group of Sidri hatchlings secretly take over the now-abandoned X-Mansion, where they surprise and captureLady Mastermind when she comes looking for a portal to the X-Men's new domicile onKrakoa.Cypher establishes a rapport with the Sidri, allowing them to guard the portal and freeing Lady Mastermind peacefully.[7][8]
The actual revelation wouldn't come until the "Reunion" storyline that brought Corsair together with Cyclops and Storm as they battled the alien threat known as the Sidri.
Taking Brian Wood's team of Rachel Summers, Psylocke, Storm, Jubilee and Monet St. Croix, Guggenheim immediately launched the team into space, re-introducing Deathbird and the Sidri, even as the S.W.O.R.D. station became overrun.
[Ego] calls in a favor from Sam Alexander, who arrives to remove the massive, space-ray looking Sidri from the "planet with a goatee". Eventually, using some extinction-level event thinking, he defeats the creatures, before racing home, barely in time for school.
It seems that Doug made a deal with the Sidri. They can use the estate as their nest, but they'll let mutants use the gate. Nightcrawler is satisfied with the outcome and the X-Men go home.
