Shutu (/ˈʃuːtuː/ orSutu/ˈsuːtuː/) is the name given in ancientAkkadian language sources to certainnomadic groups of theTransjordanian highlands, extending deep intoMesopotamia and SouthernIraq. Some scholars have speculated that "Shutu" may be a variant of theEgyptian termShasu.[1]
An Egyptianexecration text of the 17th century BCE refers to an "Ayyab" (possibly a variant form of the nameJob) as king of the Shutu. Some scholars have tenuously identified the Shutu as the progenitors of theMoabites andAmmonites.[1]
