Ramaswamy Shreyas Gopal[1] (born 4 September 1993) is an Indiancricketer who plays forKarnataka in domestic cricket.[1] He is anall-rounder who bats right-handed, and bowlsleg break. He played three ODIs forIndia Under-19 cricket team in 2011.[2] He had captainedKarnataka at various age levels such as Under-13, Under-15, Under-16 and Under-19.[3]

Domestic career

Gopal made his debut for Karnataka in 2013. On 12 February 2014, Gopal picked the firsthat-trick inIrani Cup history againstRest of India, which helped Karnataka win theIrani Cup.[4] In August 2019, he was named in the India Blue team's squad for the2019–20 Duleep Trophy.[5][6]

In October 2018, he was named inIndia A's squad for the2018–19 Deodhar Trophy.[7]

Indian Premier League

He was bought byMumbai Indians in the 2014 IPL auction, where he spent four seasons.

In January 2018, he was bought by theRajasthan Royals in the2018 IPL auction.[8] On 30 April 2019, he took ahat-trick againstRoyal Challengers Bangalore in the2019 Indian Premier League, which included the wickets ofVirat Kohli,AB de Villiers andMarcus Stoinis.[9][10][11] Shreyas Gopal picked up a hat-trick in the shortest IPL game ever.[12]

In February 2022, he was bought by theSunrisers Hyderabad in theauction for the2022 Indian Premier League tournament.[13]

He was bought byChennai Super Kings in the 2024 IPL auction.[14]

Personal life

Shreyas Gopal studied atThe Frank Anthony Public School, Bangalore. He completed his Bcom (Bachelor of Commerce) fromJain University.[15]

His father Ramaswamy Gopal was aclub cricketer for 20 years while his mother Amitha playedvolleyball at state level.[16] During his childhood he liked to imitate the bowling action of his role modelAnil Kumble.[17]

Shreyas Gopal married his long-time girlfriend Nikitha on 24 November 2021.[18][19]
