Prior to joining WWE, Urbanski performed for variouspromotions on theindependent circuit, such asShimmer Women Athletes,Evolve,Rise Wrestling, andShine Wrestling, where she won theShine Nova Championship.

Early life

Ashley Louise Urbanski was born inSanta Clara County,California, on March 14, 1992.[1] She is ofFilipino descent.[4] At age seven, she began doingmusical theatre which she would continue into college.[5]

Urbanski began her career atHoodslam inOakland, California in 2014 as Missy Highasshit, a cheerleader valet for the Stoner Brothers and stable Stoner U (a comedic parody ofMissy Hyatt and theSteiner Brothers).[6] She also frequently appeared on the Californiaindependent circuit, wrestling forAll Pro Wrestling, Bar Wrestling, and Big Time Wrestling, as well asNashville, Tennessee promotionImpact Wrestling.[citation needed]

Urbanski made her debut forShimmer Women Athletes on November 11, 2016, in a loss toMelanie Cruise.[7] She made herEvolve debut at Evolve 115 on November 9, 2018 under the ring name Shotzi Blackheart (the last name being a reference to American rock singerJoan Jett, of whom Urbanski is a fan), challengingAllysin Kay for theShine Championship in a losing effort.[8] Blackheart also competed forShine Wrestling,[citation needed] and at Shine 58 on May 10, 2019, Blackheart defeated Aja Perera to win theShine Nova Championship.[9] At Shine 59 on June 29, she retained the title in a triple threat match involving Perera andSantana Garrett.[10] Blackheart successfully defended the title againstNatalia Markova at Shine 60.[11]

AtEvolve 137 on October 11, 2019, after defeating Perera,William Regal, who at that time was working forWWE'sdevelopmentalbrandNXT, offered Blackheart a WWE contract during an unannounced appearance, and due to this, she had to vacate the Shine Nova Championship.[12][13]

Tough Enough (2015)

In 2015, Urbanski took part in the trials for thesixth season ofWWE's competitionTough Enough. She was initially selected as one of 6 women who would take part in that season's competition, but had to withdraw from it before it began, due to a previously undiagnosed irregular heartbeat causing a failed medical.[14] She had a tryout forWWE Performance Center in May 2016.[15]

NXT (2019–2021)

In October 2019, Urbanski signed with WWE and reported to the WWE Performance Center.[16] She then joined the company in November 2019.[17] She made her debut on anNXT house show on December 5, 2019, losing toChelsea Green.[18] She made her televised debut on the December 25 episode ofNXT as aface, still under her independent ring name "Shotzi Blackheart" in a loss toBianca Belair.[19] At theRoyal Rumble on January 26, 2020, Blackheart entered her firstRoyal Rumble match at #26 before being eliminated by Baszler.[20] On the June 17 episode ofNXT, Blackheart andTegan Nox challengedBayley andSasha Banks for theWWE Women's Tag Team Championship, which they were unsuccessful in winning.[21]

AtHalloween Havoc, she served as the host during that episode, preventing Shirai during her match againstCandice LeRae from being attacked by a mysterious person wearing aGhostface mask (later revealed asIndi Hartwell).[22] She formed an alliance withRhea Ripley, Shirai, andEmber Moon to compete at theTakeOver: WarGames, where they faced off against LeRae,Toni Storm,Raquel González, andDakota Kai in a WarGames match,[23] which her team lost.[24] Blackheart and Moon participated in theWomen's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, but were defeated in the finals to Kai and González in the finals atVengeance Day.[25] On the March 10 episode ofNXT, Blackheart and Moon defeated Kai and González to win theNXT Women's Tag Team Championship, her first title in NXT.[26] After retaining the titles atTakeOver: Stand & Deliver againstThe Way,[27] they lost it against them on the may 5 episode ofNXT in astreet fight, which also marked Blackheart's final appearance for the brand.[28]

SmackDown (2021–2024)

On the July 9 episode ofSmackDown, Blackheart, now under the shortened ring name Shotzi, debuted alongsideTegan Nox as Shotzi & Nox,[29] but the team was disbanded when, as part of the2021 Draft, Nox was drafted to theRaw brand while Shotzi remained on theSmackDown brand.[30] On the October 29 episode ofSmackDown, after losing toSmackDown Women's ChampionCharlotte Flair in a championship contenders match, Shotzi attackedSasha Banks who was at ringside, turningheel in the process.[31]

She worked on the SmackDown brand, participating in PPVs likeSurvivor Series 2021,[32]Royal Rumble 2022,[33] orMoney in the Bank 2022.[34] She andXia Li participated in theWWE Women's Tag Team Championship Tournament for the vacanttag titles, but were eliminated byRaquel Rodriguez andAliyah in the first round.[35]

On the September 16 episode ofSmackDown, Shotzi saved Rodriguez from an attack byDamage CTRL (Dakota Kai andIyo Sky), turningface in the process.[36] On the October 21 episode ofSmackDown, Shotzi and Rodriguez challenged Kai and Sky for the Women's Tag Team Championship, but were unsuccessful afterBayley distracted Shotzi.[37] The next day, she served as the host forNXT Halloween Havoc alongside Quincy Elliot, attackingLash Legend after she interrupted them.[38] On the November 11 episode ofSmackDown, Shotzi won a six-pack challenge, earning a SmackDown Women’s Championship match against Ronda Rousey atSurvivor Series WarGames.[39] At the event, Shotzi failed to win the title after interference fromShayna Baszler.[40]

In the summer of 2023, Shotzi began feuding with Damage CTRL.[citation needed] Shotzi had some hair cut off by them, following an assault.[citation needed] She then decided to get back at them and remove her green hair entirely in a segment, although this was not just part of a storyline, but also done as a tribute to her sister in real life, who suffers frombile duct cancer.[citation needed] Shotzi revealed her new look in a house show atMexico City.[citation needed] In November atSurvivor Series: WarGames, Shotzi, along withBianca Belair, Charlotte Flair andBecky Lynch, defeated Damage CTRL (Bayley,Asuka, Iyo Sky, andKairi Sane) in aWarGames match.[41]

During the February 13, 2024, taping of the February 20 episode ofNXT, Shotzi faced off againstNXT Women's ChampionLyra Valkyria in a title match after trading shots on social media weeks prior, during which she suffered a knee injury and the match was put to an abrupt end. Shotzi was slated to faceTiffany Stratton on the February 16 episode ofSmackDown in a qualifying match for a spot at theElimination Chamber match atElimination Chamber: Perth, but due to having suffered atorn ACL during her match against Valkyria, which ruled her unable to compete for approximately nine months, her spot was taken over byAlba Fyre.[42][43]

Return to NXT (2024–present)

Shotzi returned from injury on the December 10, 2024 episode ofNXT, running to the aid ofGigi Dolin andTatum Paxley as the pair faced an attack byFatal Influence (Jacy Jayne,Fallon Henley andJazmyn Nyx), starting a feud with Fatal Influence and an alliance with Dolin and Paxley in the process.[44] The teams would take on each other atNXT: New Year's Evil on January 7, 2025, with Shotzi's team coming out victorious.[45]

Prior to signing with WWE, Urbanski used her Blackheart character for two late-night TV shows forKOFY, a local San Francisco TV station. She first was cast as a dancer forCreepy KOFY Movie Time, asketch comedy show that featuredhorror movies. She then appeared as a guest onCircus of Chaos, avariety show of the same vein.[46][47]

In April 2021, Urbanski alongside fellow professional wrestlerElizabeth Chihaia (best known as Scarlett) were featured on fellow wrestler and singerHarley Cameron's music video "Indestructible".[48] On October 14, 2022, the trio performed "I Put a Spell on You" (as a tribute of the filmHocus Pocus) in a music video which was released byWWE.[49]

She made her WWEvideo game debut as a playable character inWWE 2K22.[50] She also appeared inWWE 2K23.[51]

In September 2023, she started hosting aghost hunting show titled "Chamber of Horrors" alongside Scarlett on WWE'sYouTube channel.[52]

Personal life

On December 29, 2023, before a WWE house show in Las Vegas, Urbanski married longtime boyfriend Jesús Alfaro.[53] She would subsequently compete at said house show in her wedding dress.
