Shiqi Subdistrict, also known asShiqiqu Subdistrict, is asubdistrict located in the center ofZhongshan city,[2] covering an area of 22.72 square kilometres (8.77 sq mi), and a population of 257,472 (2020).[3] The subdistrict administers 19residential communities,[4][5] and is home to major industrial and commercial activity.[2]
Shiqi washistorically spelledShekki in English,[6] and is nicknamedTiecheng (鐵城;Tiěchéng; 'Iron City').[7]
Local people mainly speak theShiqi dialect, aYue dialect related toStandard Cantonese.[8]
The subdistrict is located at the foot of Yandun Mountain (烟墩山).[4] The Qi River (Chinese:岐江;pinyin:Qí Jiāng) is the primary river in the subdistrict.[4]

The subdistrict has a permanent population of about 227,200.[4]
As of 2006, Shiqi Subdistrict had a permanent population of 169,400 and migrant population of 40,900.[2]

In recent years, Shiqi Subdistrict has attracted a number of national firms involves withfinancial and information services.[4] The subdistrict is also home to a nationally-significant industrial park, the Guangdong Zhongshan Industrial Park.[2]
In 2019, the subdistrict'sgross domestic product grew 1.4%.[4] As of 2019, retail sales in the subdistrict totaled ¥31.164 billion, tax revenue in the subdistrict totaled ¥4.534 billion, and foreign trade in the subdistrict totaled ¥17.695 billion.[4] Shiqi's retail sales ranks first amongtownship-level divisions inZhongshan.[4]
Statistics from 2006 report that the subdistrict hosts 11,767 unique enterprises.[2]
The Zhongshan Institute of theUniversity of Electronic Science and Technology of China is located in Shiqi Subdistrict.[4]
Located in the Pearl River Delta, Shiqi Subdistrict lies in close proximity to a number of major cities. The subdistrict is 40 kilometres (25 mi) south ofGuangzhou, and 57 kilometres (35 mi) north ofMacau.[4]
BothNational Highway 105 and theBeijing-Zhuhai Expressway [zh] pass through the western parts of Shiqi Subdistrict.[4]

The subdistrict is served by theZhongshan North railway station, located on theGuangzhou–Zhuhai intercity railway.[4]
The station is located on Minke West Road (Chinese:民科西路) in Shiqi Subistrict.[citation needed] It is the station nearest to the city centre ofZhongshan.[citation needed]
Shiqi Subdistrict is located just over 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) west ofZhongshan Port [zh].[4]

Other subdistricts ofZhongshan
With the exception of Shiukwan on the Canton-Hankow railroad, Kwangtung's regional centers are situated along the coast, notably in the Canton delta. There, in addition to Canton, are the cities of Fatshan, Kongmoon andShekki. The metropolis of western Kwangtung is Tsamkong, and Pakhoi is the chief town of the western panhandle.
