Shingon Risshu

TheShingon-risshū (真言律宗, "The Shingon-Vinaya school") is a comparatively small medieval sect ofBuddhism in Japan that arose in theKamakura period as an offshoot ofShingon Buddhism. Its founder was amonk namedEison (叡尊 1201-1290), a disciple ofJōkei, and carried further by Eison's discipleNinshō (忍性 1217-1303).

Shingon Risshū is marked by a greater emphasis on thevinaya than traditional Shingon Buddhism while still adhering to tantric practices. Its home temple isSaidai-ji.
