Shinde (pronunciation:[ʃin̪d̪e]) is a clan of theMaratha clan system variations of the name includeScindia andSindhia,Sindia.[1] It is found largely inMaharashtra (India), but it also appears in Indian states bordering Maharashtra likeMadhya Pradesh,Gujarat,Karnataka,Goa,Telangana andChhattisgarh.

TheScindia dynasty was founded byRanoji Scindia, a personal guard who started as a "bodyguard" ofBajirao I Peshwa.[2][3][4][5] He was the son of Jankojirao Scindia, the hereditaryPatils ofKanherkhed, a village inSatara District,Maharashtra.[6]
