Shighnan District (Dari:ولسوالی شغنان -Tajik:Ноҳияи Шиғнони,Shughni:خُږنۈن ولسوالے) is one of the 28districts of theBadakhshan Province in easternAfghanistan. It is part of the history region ofShighnan that is today divided between Afghanistan andTajikistan.The district borders thePanj River andTajikistan in the northeast, theMaimay district to the west, theRaghistan district in the southwest, theKohistan,Arghanj Khwa, andShuhada districts in the south, and theIshkashim district in the southeast.
Lake Shewa is located in Shighnan Valley.
The Khowar, Tajiks, Khoshey, and Pamiris are the major ethnic groups. Only the Farsi and Shughnani language are spoken.
This District has a population of 27,750[1]
