Shi Tingmao (Chinese:施廷懋;pinyin:Shī Tíngmào; born 31 August 1991) is a Chinesediver representing Chongqing diving team. She has been dominant in the 3 metre springboard events in the 2010s. She has won four gold medals inOlympic competitions, two at the2016 Olympics and two more at the2020 Olympics. She also holds eight golds in theWorld Championships.

Career

She won the gold medal in women's1m springboard at the2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai, becoming the first Chinese diver from provincial team to participate the World Championships.

At the2016 Summer Olympics she won the gold medal in women's3 metre synchronized springboard withWu Minxia. She also won gold in the3m Springboard.

At the2019 World Aquatics Championships held inGwangju, South Korea, Shi won her third consecutive World Championships gold in the3m springboard event.[1] She also won gold in the3m synchro with partnerWang Han.[2]

At the2020 Summer Olympics, celebrated in 2021, she repeated the 2016 success and won the gold medal in women's3 metre synchronized springboard withWang Han. She also won again the gold medal in the3m Springboard.[3]

Shi was named theBest Female Diver of the Year byFINA in six consecutive years from 2015 to 2021.[4][5]

Personal life

After winning gold in the 2020 Summer Olympics, Shi revealed that she was struggling withdepression and considered abandoning professional diving. She joinedNaomi Osaka andSimone Biles in openly talking aboutmental health issues in women's elite competitions.[6]
