Shawn Wayne Hatosy[1] (born December 29, 1975) is an American film and television actor and director. He is best known for his roles in the filmsIn & Out (1997),The Faculty (1998),Outside Providence,Anywhere but Here (both 1999),The Cooler (2003), andAlpha Dog (2006). He is also well known for his role as Detective Sammy Bryant on theTNT crime drama seriesSouthland (2009–2013) and starred as Andrew "Pope" Cody in the TNT crime drama seriesAnimal Kingdom (2016–2022).

Early life and education

Shawn Hatosy was born inIjamsville,Maryland, to Carol Ann (née Owens),[2] a loan officer; and Wayne Thomas Hatosy.[1] He has Hungarian and Irish ancestry.[3] He was raised in the Loch Haven neighborhood[4] of Ijamsville. Hatosy attended New Market Middle School and graduated fromLinganore High School in 1994.

Career

Hatosy was a singer in his own band in high school. He made an appearance inWheatus's music video for their single "A Little Respect".[5] He also made an appearance inJustin Timberlake's music video for his single "What Goes Around... Comes Around", alongsideScarlett Johansson as the drunk love interest.

In 2005, Hatosy performed oppositeAl Pacino inLyle Kessler'sOrphans, at the Greenway Court Theatre in Los Angeles. Hatosy also took on the title role in theLa Jolla Playhouse production ofThe Collected Works of Billy the Kid. Off-Broadway, he starred opposite Anna Paquin in the Paul Weitz comedyRoulette.[6][7]

In the movies Hatody appeared inSoldier's Girl,The Faculty,In & Out,[8]The Cooler,Outside Providence,[9]Anywhere but Here,John Q,A Guy Thing, and 2006'sAlpha Dog.[10] Hatosy auditioned for a leading role in the 1999 filmVarsity Blues but lost it toJames Van Der Beek.

Since appearing inPublic Enemies (2009), starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, andBad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans[11] (2009), in which Hatosy portraysNicolas Cage's partner, Armand Benoit, Hatosy has primarily worked in television.

Hatosy has appeared intelevision shows such asSEAL Team,CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,The Twilight Zone,Felicity,Six Feet Under,ER,Law & Order,Numb3rs,My Name Is Earl,Hawaii Five-0,[12]Criminal Minds,[13]Fear the Walking Dead,Flaked, andBosch.[14] He portrayed Detective Sammy Bryant in theNBC/TNT television seriesSouthland.[15] Other roles wereserial killer Boyd Fowler on the Showtime television seriesDexter[16][a] and police officer Terry McCandless inReckless.[18] He played Andrew "Pope" Cody in theTNT crime drama seriesAnimal Kingdom.[19]

In May 2024, Hatosy was cast to play Clayton Emerson onFox seriesRescue: HI-Surf.[20]

Personal life

Shawn married Kelly Albanese in December 2010.[1] The couple live in Los Angeles with their sons.[21]
