Sharkula (born August 27, 1973)[1] (other alter egos includeThig,Brian Wharton,Thigamahjigee,Sherlock Homeboy,[2]Dirty Gilligan[3]) is aChicago-arearapper.[4][5][6] His lyrics are known for beingscatterbrained, discontinuous, free-associative,non-violent, apolitical andrandom. He is also known as aflâneur for promoting his music and shows via use ofhand-made flyers andstickers scattered aroundvending boxes in Chicago, andstreet marketing often with phrases such as "Hey, you like Hip-Hop?".[7] He has appeared onChic-a-Go-Go and his albumMartin Luther King Jr. Whopper with Cheese was voted by readers of theChicago Reader as one of the 20 best albums of 2004.[8]

He has collaborated withWillis Earl Beal, who looks up to Sharkula for inspiration.[9]

in 2016, Sharkula was named runner-up best street character of the year by theChicago Reader.[10]
