Seward's Day is alegal holiday in theU.S. state ofAlaska. This holiday falls on the last Monday in March and commemorates the signing of theAlaska Purchasetreaty on March 30, 1867.[1] It is named for then-Secretary of StateWilliam H. Seward, who negotiated the purchase fromRussia. It was declared a holiday in the Territory of Alaska on March 30, 1917.[2]

It should not be confused withAlaska Day, which marks the formal transfer of control over Alaska from Russia to theUnited States.
