Sesarethus (Ancient Greek:Σεσάρηθος) was an ancient city in southernIllyria.Stephanus of Byzantium from the 6th century AD reports, citingHecataeus (6th century BC), that Sesarethos was aTaulantian city, and thatSesarethioi was itsethnicon.[1][2] The city and the tribal nameSessarethes have been related by modern scholars to the Illyrian tribe ofDassaretii.[3][4] The variantSesarethii is also mentioned byStrabo (1st century BC – 1st century AD) as an alternative name of theEnchelei.[5]
