Sergio Gómez Martín (born 4 September 2000) is a Spanish professionalfootballer who plays as aleft wing-back orattacking midfielder forLa Liga clubReal Sociedad and theSpain national team.

Club career

Barcelona

Born inBadalona,Barcelona,Catalonia, Gómez joinedBarcelona's youth setup in 2010, after stints at Trajana,Badalona andEspanyol.[3] After progressing through the youth setup, he made his senior debut withthe reserves on 6 January 2018, coming on as a latesubstitute forAbel Ruiz in a 1–1 away draw againstReal Zaragoza in theSegunda División.[4]

Borussia Dortmund

On 30 January 2018, Gómez signed withBundesliga sideBorussia Dortmund. He initially played with the team's U19 side before joining the senior squad, with a scheduled start date of 1 July 2019.[5] He made his debut for the senior squad on 8 April 2018 in 3–0 Bundesliga win againstVfB Stuttgart.[6]

Gómez joined Spanish second division clubHuesca on loan for the2019–20 season on 12 August 2019.[7] On 1 September of the following year, after helping in the club's promotion toLa Liga, his loan was extended for a further campaign.[8]

Anderlecht

On 30 June 2021, Gómez signed for Belgian clubAnderlecht on a permanent transfer, signing a contract until 2025.[9] at the end of his first season in Belgium, Gómez made 49 appearances for Anderlecht across all competitions and was named the club's player of the season.[10]

Manchester City

Gómez signed forPremier League clubManchester City on 16 August 2022 on a four-year contract.[10] On 27 August, Gómez made his City debut as a substitute forErling Haaland in a 4–2 home league victory overCrystal Palace.[11] He made hisUEFA Champions League debut againstSevilla on 6 September 2022.[12]

Real Sociedad

On 12 July 2024, Gómez joined Spanish sideReal Sociedad by signing a contract until 2030.[13]

International career

Gómez made his debut for theSpain national team on 12 October 2024 in aUEFA Nations League game against Denmark. He substitutedLamine Yamal in added time, as Spain won 1–0.[14]
