Sercus (French pronunciation:[sɛʁky];Dutch:Zerkel) is acommune in theNorddepartment in northernFrance.[3]
In the past, Sercus was on aRoman road that went fromCassel toAire-sur-la-Lys, going throughOxelaëre,Staple,Wallon-Cappel,Thiennes and from Aire-sur-la-Lys continued towardsAmiens viaSaint-Pol-sur-Ternoise andDoullens.[4]
During theAncien Régime, the parish was included in the formerDiocese of Thérouanne, and after it was abolished in 1557, the parish was transferred to theDiocese of Saint-Omer.[5]
